In April, the Professional Division of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School of Canada (RWB School) will host in-person auditions in Toronto and Vancouver, as well as virtual auditions for Europe and North Americaas part of its annual search for exciting new talent. Every student who dreams of dancing or teaching professionally is encouraged to attend. The RWB School reaches out to the world each year to discover future artists who will join its three world-class, full-time professional division programs:

  • Ballet Academic for grades 6 and up is a full-time, seven-level program for young artists.
  • Aspirant is a two-year, full-time post-secondary training program for advanced classical ballet dancers who are making the transition from student to professional artist.
  • Teacher Education is an intensive, three-year, full-time post-secondary program that provides aspiring dance teachers with the skills and knowledge necessary for a career in teaching dance in recreational and professional settings.

Following the audition process, students identified as having professional training potential are invited to attend the summer session. The RWB School currently anticipates that the 2022 Summer Session will take place in person in Winnipeg from July 4-29. After this intensive session, students who are suitable for one of the RWB School's professional programs will be accepted into the regular session, which runs from September 2022 to June 2023.

All students attending the RWB School's summer and regular sessions will experience the beautiful new state-of-the-art boarding school that opened in January. This contemporary, five-level building is built over the existing RWB parking lot and connects to the RWB studios through a secure, enclosed walkway. It includes dance and fitness studios, classrooms, recreation and relaxation areas, outdoor green space and an expanded dining program, and more - all in the spirit of balancing professional training with quality of life and comfort for students. See our boarding facilities page for more details.

According to RSF School Director Stephane Leonard, "The opportunity to offer aspiring dancers and teachers a brand new place to learn and grow that has been designed specifically for them is incredible! Today's best practices in safety and child development were the driving forces behind the design exercise, which I know will reassure student families who make the sometimes difficult decision to send their children away from home to pursue their dreams. This is a spectacular place where young people from all over the world will develop their artistic talent and characters and cultivate friendships that will last a lifetime.

Alanna McAdie, a 2009 graduate of the Academic Ballet Program, an alumna of the Aspirant Program, and the company's Principal Artist, said, "The beauty of Royal Winnipeg Ballet is that we are so integrated. We have many studios, and they are always split between the school and the company. The opportunity to see the Company's dancers work every day has helped me see my goals as a student, and the teachers at the RWB School have helped me achieve those dreams. Every teacher puts their heart into their work and every student counts. I am very grateful for the education I received at the RWB School.
